Background

In 2022, the City of Dayton was awarded a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to support the development of a Safety Action Plan.

The Safety Action Plan was developed through a collaborative, multidisciplinary process led by the City of Dayton. The effort was supported by a broad group of community partners, agencies, and stakeholders committed to reducing traffic fatalities and serious injuries. The City also partnered with a consultant team to provide technical analysis, engagement support, and best-practice guidance throughout the project.

The Safety Action Plan

This plan represents more than a policy document—it’s a commitment to transformative change. By prioritizing safety, equity, and accessibility, the city aims to build a transportation network that protects all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, and transit riders.

Through targeted interventions, data-driven solutions, and community collaboration, Dayton is paving the way toward a future where no one dies on our roads.

What’s Next?

The City can apply for SS4A implementation funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) for infrastructure projects that make the community safer. Additionally, the City will monitor progress made towards the goal of eliminating fatal and serious injuries for all road users of the City network.
