2. The Dayton Police Department's Citizens Police Academy is designed for those interested in learning about our police department in a unique, hands-on, and interactive way. Participants will learn about what police officers do in their day to day work, get to experience police techniques, including handling firearms, and participate in mock scenarios including traffic stops, evidence collection, and building searches. Students will also complete a community safety project. The Citizens Academy runs for 12 weeks and is held on Thursday evenings from 6-8pm. Applicants do have to pass a basic background check.
