The temporary closure of the elevated walkway connecting City Hall to the Municipal Parking Garage will result in short-term relocation of public meetings (including those of the City Commission) and operation of a temporary, off-site customer service office.
The 41-year old walkway will close Monday, Dec. 2, for up to 60 days, to allow for preventive structural maintenance. As a result, the third-floor entrance to City Hall will temporarily close. All other City Hall entrances will remain open for community and employee access during the maintenance project period.
City Commission meetings and other public meetings scheduled for December and January will occur at the Dayton Convention Center (22 E. Fifth St.). The meetings will be held in the theater, located on the third floor. If the maintenance project is completed before the 60-day period ends, meetings will return to their usual City Hall location.
Because the elevated walkway serves as the handicapped-accessible entrance to City Hall, the City of Dayton will temporarily offer customer service functions (including water/waste collection bill payments) at the Dayton Convention Center lobby, in addition to City Hall.
The City of Dayton recognizes community accessibility needs and is committed to providing full access to programs, services, and activities. A new street-level, fully accessible City Hall entrance is expected to be constructed in 2020.
