Dayton Shines events to honor victims of the August 4 2019 Shooting
Tuesday, August 4, will mark a year since nine people were killed and many more injured as a result of a mass shooting in the Oregon District. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Dayton along with several community partners, is announcing plans for several virtual events to help remember and honor victims and survivors. The memorial events branded “Dayton Shines” reference the Gem City Shine event held following the mass shooting in downtown Dayton that brought together tens of thousands of Daytonians on the streets of the Oregon District.
The events marking one year since the shooting will be solitary, virtual or limited to small groups. We are asking the community to continue to observe safety guidelines as outlined by the state while participating in memorial events.
