Major Joseph Wiesman is the Commander of East Patrol Operations Division. He was raised in the City of Dayton and is a graduate of Belmont High School, class of 1986. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves where he worked as a Military Police Officer.
In 1989, he joined the Dayton Police Academy. After graduation he worked as a Patrol Officer, and was later appointed to the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, where he eventually served as the SWAT Commander. As an officer, he also held the positions of Drug Detective, Strike Force Officer, and Property Crimes Detective.
In 2002, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and worked in Patrol, Dispatch, Narcotics Bureau, and eventually the Training Academy.
In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he was assigned as the Narcotics Bureau Commander and later the East Patrol Operations Division, Day Watch Commander.
Major Wiesman earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Siena Heights University and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Tiffin University. In addition, he is a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College course, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive course, and the FBI National Academy.
