Register a Vacant Property

Effective September 2013, the City of Dayton Vacant Property Ordinance (VPO) (PDF) requires all vacant residential properties meeting the Ordinance definition of foreclosed and vacant to be registered by the responsible party with the City of Dayton’s Code Official within 15 days of the filing of a foreclosure action on a vacant property.

Note: Only properties with a County Parcel ID beginning with “R72” need to be registered.

Enforcement


Failure to comply with the requirements of this program may result in a civil suit with penalties up to $1,000 and a $100 late fee.

The VPO Registration Form (PDF) must be completed and returned with the applicable fee to the following address:

Fees


Fees are not pro-rated. Renewal is due 12 months after initial registration.
  • First Year Registration - $250
  • Renewal - $50
  • Exemption - $50*

*In accordance with Section 93.106 of the Revised Code of General Ordinances, and approval by the Code Official, a working burglar and fire alarm system may qualify the property for an Exemption Registration of $50.
