Residents and Police Join in Training, Engagement Sessions

The Dayton Mediation Center in partnership with the Dayton Police Department is launching an innovative program designed to build relationships between officers and community members.

The "Responding, Not Reacting to Conflict" program will bring together a small group of citizens and officers who will spend two sessions getting to know each other while learning about conflict resolution.

The workshops will take place on February 11 and 25. After the workshops, citizens will host officers for neighborhood visits. The group will meet again to report on their experiences, plan for future connections and decide how to share their experience with the larger community.

"Our hope is the relationships formed by these police officers and neighbors will help strengthen the Dayton community," said Janet Mueller of the Dayton Mediation Center.

This project is funded in part from a grant from the JAMS Foundation and the National Association for Community Mediation.
